The husband is out of town, and I had the 16yo’s Back-to-School-Night and the 12yo’s baseball game this week so I’m running on fumes, but! There were some definite positives this week that I wanted to share.
The 12yo’s baseball coach. I LOVE the 12yo’s baseball coach. He ONLY cheers them on for things they have power over. Instead of telling a runner who made it home, that he ran really fast, he’ll say, “Nice job keeping your ears open” (which means he listened and knew when to run for home). I love the way he talks to them all the time, but especially when things aren’t going well. I am so glad he is the 12yo’s first real baseball coach, and I really hope he is with them again next year.
Positive interactions at school. I’ve had a couple of really positive interactions with students at school lately. Quite a few 6th graders have declared that my class is their favorite. A student from last year, who struggled a lot in Spanish 1A, has been working really hard in 1B and feeling successful because of her efforts. She also shared some really touching reflections on my class last year, which I appreciated hearing.
Possible opportunity at the SF Zoo. The 16yo has heard nothing about the YMCA’s jobs she applied to (I’m kind of shocked actually – I guess the job market is rough even for Jr. positions!) and first round of the Marine Mammal Center applications does not start until mid-October. But, she just heard about an animal care volunteer opportunity at the zoo and immediately emailed expressing interest. The time commitment is pretty low key, and she would be very interested in the experience. I really hope it works out for her. {UPDATE: She got an email back saying they’d contact her with orientation info!}
Unexplained GI issues much improved. I will not go into said GI issues in detail, but I will say that they got bad enough and persistent enough for me to fall down some pretty upsetting rabbit holes. But after diligent probiotic use, things seem to be much improved. Crossing my fingers that they stay that way.
Other random stuff. I found the AirPod that was lost for a week. It was in the dirty laundry, and I found it BEFORE I washed said laundry. The husband is out of town having fun at a music festival and I’m home setting my own schedule and not wishing my husband would show up in ways he just can’t right now. This break is good for both of us. Fall is in the air (and the stores) and I’m here for it. And of course, TGIF!

How absolutely lovely to hear from you today!!! Hurrah for zoo orientation, REALLY hope this works out! The commute issues would be so much easier than over the Golden Gate! And a wider variety of animals perhaps.
SO glad the 12 year old has such a positive and good coach. Really nice to hear about. And the important part of sports (having fun) in my opinion will be encouraged.
Am super happy you have gotten such positive feedback from students. Also that the g.i. stuff is clearing up. Hope things are normal soon.

PS: Happy airpod was found at right time and LOVE the cat on black chair. Funny to me that it creates unease for Panther. Does other cat react same way? I know cats see differently from people. But cannot remember quite how the throw would appear to him.
