On Fire

I purposely didn’t reas the news today. Yesterday it was so awful, and I felt so hopeless reading it, that today I decided I was going to step away.

And I did. For the whole day. And then I clicked into the NYT and then into TPM and then into WaPo and holy shit.

I’m glad I got a day away. It really did make me happier. I wrote that post I just published about how things felt okay. So I know it does work, stepping away. I think I’m going to do it more often because I really does feel like America is unraveling.

It’s a fitting end to this President’s first term.

  1. This showed up first before the one below so I read it first. Which made the peace and achievements of the post directly below more powerful. It also made me realize the perspective I always gain from knowing you here. Thank you.
Being way older than you I remember previous times of rage and outrage across our nation. On the one hand it can feel like absolutely nothing has changed since the early 1960’s …. and then I see there has been a change in who is raising their voice in protest versus the reactions 60 years ago. Not everyone (esp in elected offices), but dinosaurs can come to an end … IF we all vote. Look at the city response today, look at our state officials, look at who our state choose for federal offices. There has been very real change.
Please keep posting even if you avoid reading much of the news. Hold on and hang in, keep yourself safe. Where I am is also keeping closed because, like SF, we learned from the prior epidemic in my lifetime when so very many died. Tell your husband thank you for all his work to keep the city alive to re-blossom.
Yes, it is a terrible time. AND, WE CAN MAKE IT BETTER. Holding your hand, thank you for holding mine too.
