Positives Everywhere

Have I mentioned that I got this far in the pandemic without anyone in our small social circles getting Covid? No one that we’ve seen regularly this past year has ever tested positive. Well they hadn’t before this week.

My daughter’s friend has it. And her mom, who has been quarantining with her in one room of her mother’s apartment in NYC) finally tested positive too. My friend’s husband just tested positive. My close friend’s son and his girlfriend tested positive on Christmas Eve. And everyone I know knows 3-5 other people who’ve tested positive recently. So many people I know have gotten Covid in this past week. So many.

So many people in this country got Covid last week. And so many more are getting it this week.

I think the chance of my family making it through January without getting it is very, very small.

But so far we’re okay. My husband still doesn’t feel better but I think he’s turning a corner. We’re still supposed to see our friends tomorrow and for the first time I think it might actually happen. It’s not even supposed to rain tomorrow!

We shall see. I’m trying to let myself hope that the next three days might be finally, finally, what I really need. Some actual connection with others. Some rest. Some exhalation.

Crossing my fingers.

  1. My fingers are crossed for you and for you seeing friends.
Yes. Covid is clearly now more of a waiting game. We can, and need, to try to avoid it and the vaccinated now CAN HOPE we will only have a relatively mild case and HOPE we do not get Long Haulers problems ….. but. Maybe it can be held off; maybe they will have more testing available SOON, maybe the medicines to help will become more available but overall ….. bleak.
That schools are all opening …. ‘Nuff said.
Trust you have had time with your sister. Glad your husband is improving. Hope you get some refreshing the rest of this time away from school. Glad sky is blue right now and hope things dry out before we hopefully get more wet.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WRITING!!!!!!
Wishing everyone safe new year and good luck! Please be in touch.

  2. Nobody in my immediate family has gotten covid YET. I will probably get it at work next week yay. I did tell my parents not to go to church for the next month or so since if they got covid now, it would really suck to die because the hospitals were over capacity and there are no beds and only staff who aren’t really qualified to take care of sick people are available.

    1. If, when, you return to posting yourself please let us know as your voice is missed. Sending you best wishes on escaping omicron or at least having the mildest of cases and no lingering results other than increased immunity. (A good wish for all who write or read here!)

  3. I have had a couple people be positive earlier but they were doing tons of socializing and higher risk stuff. Now people are getting it at work and well everywhere. So far our hospitals are doing ok, fingers crossed that keeps up.
