Seeing this giant spider on the door of my classroom (it’s a Mediterranean Spiny False Wolf Spider, or so says the insect identifier app I downloaded to find out).
Seeing a HUGE buck in our hallway during a Secure the Campus alert (which was called because of the big deer wandering around our campus).. It was really big, with antlers, and it was just standing in the hallway, right in front of my classroom. I wish I had gotten a picture, but opening the door again to do that was not the responsible move.
Learning that Daylight Savings Time ends on Halloween night. It’s going to be a SUPER HALLOWEEN!
The 12yo getting a great hit his last time at bat during an important game.
Seeing the temporary tattoos our Social Committee had made of our administrators faces. I love where I work!
Small wins
Figuring out where the vanilla smell in my classroom is coming from and how it’s getting on to me. I don’t like smells and this has been driving me nuts but I finally figured out that the smell is on a table, and even though I can’t seem to get the smell out of the table, I can at least avoid working at the table.
Sending out the 6th grade Spanish syllabus and BTSN video. I was waiting to send the syllabus out until I had the video made, and I FINALLY made the video today! Sure our botched BTSN was a month ago, but better late than never!
Starting to score the Worst Presos Ever that my 6th grade Computers students turned in. They aren’t going to take nearly as long to score as I thought.
A book I had to put on hold at the library automatically renewed, which I wasn’t expecting. Now I have three more weeks with it!
Starting this post! If I actually publish it I will consider that a BIG win.
Looking forward to…
Conference week next week (0* starts 15 mins later at 8am and I’m done teaching at 1pm every day).
Three day weekend after conference week.
Hosting book club (mostly just to get it over with for another six months).
Baseball season being over (I spent so many hours at games last month)
October! I love Halloween and Día de Muertos and fall and costumes and decorations and pumpkin flavored foods and all of it.
Over it
How tired I am at the end of every school day. My classes are so intense this year. It’s a lot.
Margin-less mornings. Yes I can reliably make it 0* on time without waking up earlier in the morning, but I have to be relentlessly efficient in the execution of my morning tasks. It’s an exhausting way to start each day.
Both kids still needing so much support to finish their days and get into bed at a reasonable time. Is this something I can every expect they can manage independently?
My husband’s general attitude of exhaustion. He got to spend five days in Philadelphia at a music festival (for fun, not for work) and he’s spent all the time that he’s been back moping about how tired he is. He’ll also be away for two weeks at the end of the month (for work) and I’m already dreading how long he’ll be moping around after those trips.
Chores. I feel like I’m doing chores all the time. As soon as I get through it all, it’s time to start again. I’m tired.
Big wins
The Valkyries advancing to the semifinals!
Getting to see the Valkyries win their final playoff game.
Cheering and chanting with the fans in the stands, and in the halls, and in the stairwells, and in front of the Chase Center, and as we walked back to the car. THIS IS BALLHALLA!!!
Did I mention that the Valks are advancing to the semifinals! GO VALKS!
Also, I consider it a pretty big win that I’m posting this while it’s still technically Friday.
