It’s Monday night but it’s still the weekend! I’m so glad it’s a three day weekend. Only one of the last three weeks of school is five days long!
Meanwhile, it feels like most people are already done with their school years. The 15yo’s best friend was over and she is done, and we’re all sooooo jealous.
This weekend has not just been long, but spendy. The 15yo and I had to go get a bunch of scuba gear (mask, fins, gloves, booties) at the dive shop on Saturday and that all cost a pretty penny.
Today I took the 15yo and her friend to Dave & Busters (those cards I got two months ago still work!) and the 12yo and I ended up shopping the whole time. It started at Dick’s, where he needed new batting gloves and a batting helmet, and we threw in a pair of sunglasses, because why not!
Then we went to Uniqlo, which was having a decent sale (rare for them!) I grabbed some pants I’ve had my eye on forever, and a couple pair of shorts for the 15yo.
Finally we found a pair of Jordan 4s at Footlocker on pretty deep discount. They are a little too big, but he swears they feel fine and he’ll grow into them, probably faster than I expect. (I’ve been trying to replace his Jordans for months, so I was happy to make this purchase).
On Monday I did a little online shopping, getting the 12yo some jeans and the 15yo some sweatpants. It was definitely a spendy weekend!
But we did save some money too. The 12yo and I fixed the backboard of his basketball hoop on Sunday. It wasn’t like I was going to replace the basketball hoop, but at least now it probably won’t break all the way and become unusable (and he’s actually been out there shooting hoops a lot lately).

I cut the 15yo’s hair, which needed it BADLY. I cut everyone’s hair in my family, but the 15yo’s is the hardest because she wears it down and it’s relatively straight and she likes some layers in it. Cutting it myself definitely saves us around $80-100 a pop.

Also, we were going to ask the grandparents to get the 15yo a new phone for her birthday (hers is in rough shape), but then we realized we’ve been paying insurance on her phone (we worried she would lose it), so we filed a claim and they are replacing it. She’ll probably get a refurbished phone, but I’ll take that over spending almost a grand on a new one. Her current phone buzzes loudly when the haptics sound and it’s so annoying to be sitting anywhere near it when a group text she’s on is blowing up. I’m so excited for her to get a new one.
This also means the grandparents can give her a couple scuba diving trips in Maui for her birthday, which will save me money too! Woot!
I know I’ve been shit at posting every day, but at least I’m putting something up, which is more than I can say for April. It’s a busy time of year, and any posts that make it up are an accomplishment!
I think you have done amazingly posting more frequently this month with all the other demands on your time and school year end! I have been impressed.
And, yes ,it sounds like it was an expensive weekend of shopping but you were getting discounts on items you were going to be needing this summer and that was smart.
Delighted your gradual return to running has been going so well.
I think being able to cut your family’s hair is a great achievement! It is also something I was never able to do so hat’s off to you!
THANK YOU for posting!
That does sound like an expensive weekend, but at least those were fun purchases (as opposed to a non-fun spendy weekend with something like a huge vet bill). Also it sounds like you saved more money than you spent- AMAZING job on your daughter’s hair!!! How did you learn to do that?
I know you’re jealous of everyone finishing school- but you’ll have the last laugh when we’re back by mid-August. Hang in there!
Wow, you did a fabulous job on your daughter’s hair! I also have very straight hair, and I once had a hairdresser tell me he didn’t like cutting it because every snip showed. To be fair, it was VERY short (late 80s), and yes, if he made a mistake, it was going to show.
You had a spendy weekend for sure, but none of it sounds wasted, and YAY for using that phone insurance!
I can’t comment on your newer post about being ‘over it’, but I wanted to say that I remember being so burnt out by the end of my daughter’s school year, especially graduations when there are SO MANY activities. I cannot imagine how exhausting it must be for the teachers and staff! KUDOS to you, and I hope you get to take some time off this summer. Also, YAY Maui!
